 School Resource Officer Philosophy

Public safety is the mission of law enforcement but the safety of the school is the job of the entire community.  Through this philosophy, the SRO works diligently to ensure the safest environment for learning and for the well being of everyone at Libertyville High School.

SRO Responsibilities
  • The SRO's primary function is to provide a link between the community and the school while providing an environment of physical and emotional safety for students and staff.
  • The SRO is both a sworn Law Enforcement Officer specialized in juvenile matters and an agent of the school.
  • The SRO shall work with administration, staff and students in several capacities including Law Enforcement, public safety, counseling regarding legal issues, training and instruction, and enforcement of school rules and policies.
  • The SRO will provide assistance to high school personnel and promote a helping relationship that will enhance a positive image of our local police department.
  • The SRO meets regularly with building administration, Team Leaders and Counselors and shares pertinent information regarding students and activities outside of school.
  • The SRO interacts with students in classroom presentations, activities and school functions.
  • The SRO will serve on several committees including the Student Assistance Program, Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Team.
