Options Fair 2012 A Transition Resource Fair for Professionals, Individuals with Special Needs and their Families

Options is a transition fair aimed at high school students and their families.  The goal of Options is to connect students with resources that are essential for their future.

CHOICES Conference

CHOICES 2011 was a great success.  Thanks to all the LHS parents and staff that attended.  Couldn't attend?  Click here for information from the 2011 Conference. Next year's conference will be in October of 2012 at Maine South High School. 

What are my post secondary options? Which colleges are best for me? How do I get accommodations in college? Is college the right place for me? Community College? Trade Schools? Are there other options?

For many students and parents, the notion of post-secondary planning may appear daunting. The process can be an educational adventure and should be a time of personal growth, self-understanding and goal setting. It should also include a survey of all options available to students.

The Special Services Department is committed to providing a supportive environment in which students with special educational needs can develop intellectual, academic, physical, social, emotional and civic life skills. The department strives to assist each student to access a variety of learning opportunities provided by high school courses, services and extra-curricular activities. The Special Services program supports each student's efforts to become a self-aware, self-advocating, self-directed strategic learner.

The Special Services Department provides a free appropriate public education to student's ages 15 through 21 years of age who have vision, hearing, language, physical, learning and/or social-emotional disabilities and who have been found eligible to receive special education services. Special education programs and services are those which are not available though the general education curriculum and which a student requires in order to benefit from his education. Students who are suspected of having a disability which may require special education services should be referred to the Special Services Team via the student's guidance counselor or social worker to determine if a case study evaluation is necessary.
