Student Tech Tips - Video Conversion

Video Conversion:

Currently LHS and VHHS seem to be experiencing the best video conversion results with a program called Winff.  It is available on most of the computers available at school.  If you wish to download this program for home use with a project, here are some links you might find helpful.

Winff Home Page
Winff Download Page
Winff Documentation Page
(more than you need to know... really... most people will find it very easy to use without reading any of this)

Video Editing:

If you need to edit video, refer to the page on Windows Movie Maker.   (Windows 7 users - Moviemaker does not come automatically with Windows 7, but a version for Windows 7 can be downloaded as part of Windows Live Essentials.)

Previously:

Previously we were using a converter callled Prism.  If you're looking for that link for any reason, here's the information we published previously:

Prism is a video converter that is extremely easy to use.  It can be used to convert files between AVI, MP4, WMV, MOV, MPEG, FLV and other video file formats.

Below is a link to a page where you can download the free Prism video converter.  Be careful to download Prism, NOT Prism Plus (which is NOT free).  Even with the free download, after a time you may get periodic messages telling you that you should upgrade to the paid version.  Even if you do not do so, the program should continue to work fine for any of the conversions you are likely to do.

Note:  If your videos are not converting properly, here's a setting to try changing in Prism:

Choose File, Options
Click the Conversions tab
Click the checkbox for Use FFMPEG first (reverse the current setting)
Choose OK.
