Award Requirements for Boys Cross-Country

A.                Earning Points

1.                  Conference Dual Meets

a.                   Non-divisional.  One point is earned for finishing ahead of the opposing team’s 7th runner.

b.                  Divisional.  2 points are earned for finishing ahead of the opposing team’s 7th runner.

2.                  Invitationals and State Series

a.                   One point is earned for running a time in the top 3/4 of the varsity race.

b.                  2 points are earned for running a time in the top 1/2 of the varsity race.

c.                   3 points are earned for running a time in the top 1/4 of the varsity race.

d.                  During the state series (regionals, sectionals, and state) one additional point is earned for finishing the race (all other point values the same).

3.                  Personal Records.  One point is earned for each PR run in competitions during the season.

B.                 Award Requirements

1.                  18 points must be earned to qualify for a varsity award.

2.                  Athletes must complete the season in good standing to qualify for any award.

3.                  Seniors who have run four years and complete the season in good standing earn a varsity award.

4.                  An athlete may still earn awards if injured or incapacitated during the season.  Coaches will use their judgement in extrapolating an individual’s predicted performances.

5.                  JV awards can be earned by freshmen who perform above the freshman level.
